BRONWYN BANCROFT

Bronwyn Bancroft is a descendant of the Bundjalung people of New South Wales, and grew up in the small country town of Tenterfield. She now lives in Sydney with her three children. She was awarded the Centenary Medal of Australia in 2003 and recognised as an Australian Living Treasure at the NSW Presentation in 1999.
Bancroft’s paintings explore her family’s history and a sense of place through the prism of modern science and the exponential development of future genetic and mimetic science in particular, to inform us further about who we are; mimetics and genetics, knowledge and identity. The artists inspiration is knowledge; the visual exploration of natural selection, inheritance, myths, folk tales, urban legends and beliefs that are spread through the forces of history and its collision with the natural world.
