SAMANTHA HOBSON WINS THE TELSTRA ART AWARD PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD

 

Vivien Anderson Gallery congratulates gallery artist SAMANTHA HOBSON on her selection as the People's Choice Award Winner at the 26th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award for her painting Wave Bust ... Windy Night. The exhibition is open until 25 October 2009 at the Museum and Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin.

2009 CLEMENGER CONTEMPORARY ART AWARD

 

Vivien Anderson Gallery congratulates gallery artist TREVOR NICKOLLS on his selection as a finalist in the 2009 Clemenger Contemporary Art Award at the National Gallery of Victoria. This is the final exhibition in the series of triennials established through a generous gift to the NGV in 1991 by Joan and Peter Clemenger. The exhibition is on at the Ian Potter Centre, NGV Australia at Federation Square, and will run until 7 February 2010.

 

 

2009 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS ART AWARDS

 

Vivien Anderson Gallery congratulates gallery artist RICARDO IDAGI who was announced the winner of the 2009 Western Australian Indigenous Art Award at the awards ceremony at the Art Gallery of WA on Friday 24 July. With a prize of $50,000, making this the richest Aboriginal art prize in Australia, the non-acquisitive award acknowledges the significant contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists make to Australian art and culture. The Minister for Culture and the Arts, John Day, announced that “Ricardo Idagi, from Murray Island, Torres Strait, Queensland, was awarded the Western Australian Indigenous Art Award for his superb craftsmanship and truth to materials. Mr Idagi’s exceptional body of work expresses his profound honouring of ancestors and his commitment to culture.”

 

Vivien Anderson Gallery also congratulates gallery artists GALI YALKARRIWUY GURRUWIWI of Elcho Island, NT and the SPINIFEX ARTISTS (WOMEN'S COLLABORATIVE) of Western Australia on their selection as finalists in the Awards. The exhibition runs until November 24.
